National Social Protection Secretariat

The Gambia government has recognized the importance of social protection and has prioritized it in their National Development Plan 2018-2021. Their long-term vision, outlined in the National Social Protection Policy (NSPP), aims to establish a comprehensive and inclusive social protection system that provides various measures to safeguard the lives of the poor and vulnerable while contributing to human development, economic productivity, and inclusive growth. Since 2012, significant progress has been made, including the establishment of a National Social Protection Steering Committee, diagnostic assessments, formulation of the NSPP and its implementation plan, as well as the establishment of the National Social Protection Secretariat in 2019 to lead and coordinate the sector.

The Gambia International Social Protection Conference

The National Social Protection Secretariat under the office of The Vice President in collaboration with partners is organizing The Gambia International Social Protection Conference from the 6^th to 8^thNov 2023 at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International conference Centre. The Theme of the conference is “Accelerating social protection financing to increase coverage and reach”. The conference will be graced by His Excellency Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia, Cabinet Ministers, the United Nations Resident coordinator, The World Bank country Rep. among other dignitaries. The Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs will deliver a statement on Financing Social protection. The conference will also attract participants from national and international levels across government institutions, International Organizations, NGOs, the Academia among others.

The conference will feature panel discussions, technical workshops sand presentations by experts on various topics relating to social protection administration, coverage, sustainable financing, service delivery and many more. The conference will also involve networking and international experience sharing by delegates from other countries Proceedings of the conference will be live streamed on various media channels.
