Mission

NSPS will facilitate a shift in the design and practice of social protection – away from the current fragmented, uncoordinated, and under-financed system to a more harmonized, integrated and sustainable approach. It will do so by facilitating the reform of the national social protection system by ensuring more efficient and effective use of resources, strengthened management and administrative systems, and progress towards a more inclusive form of social protection that makes basic income and social services available to The Gambia’s poorest and most vulnerable people – gradually expanding access to the entire population

Vision

An inclusive, integrated and comprehensive social protection system that will effectively provide protective, preventative, promotive and transformative measures to safeguard the lives of all poor and vulnerable groups in The Gambia and contribute to broader human development, greater economic productivity and inclusive growth.

Welcome to NSPS Website

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Gambia Social Protection official website (NSPS).

The Government of the Gambia established the NSPS under the Office of the Vice President to serve as the implementing arm of the National Social Protection Steering Committee (NSPSC), as the apex body responsible for policy matters of the country’s social protection system. The National Social Protection Policy highlights the need for a Social Protection Secretariat in The Gambia to coordinate multiple social protection interventions taking place around the country, supported and implemented by different Ministries, Departments, Agencies, NGOs and partners.

The role of the NSPS is to support the NSPSC in providing leadership and coordination across the totality of social protection efforts in The Gambia.  while you surf through the website, I hope that you would get to learn more about social protection in The Gambia.

Who we are?

The Gambia government has recognized the importance of social protection and has prioritized it in their National Development Plan 2018-2021. Their long-term vision, outlined in the National Social Protection Policy (NSPP), aims to establish a comprehensive and inclusive social protection system that provides various measures to safeguard the lives of the poor and vulnerable while contributing to human development, economic productivity, and inclusive growth.
