In April 2023, the Social Registry Unit of the National Social Protection Secretariat (NSPS) successfully conducted a sensitization workshop on the Gambia Social Registry (GamSR) for all stakeholders in the social protection sector. Building on the success of last year’s event, the 2023 event’s attendance and participation was outstanding. We engaged and built the knowledge and understanding of social protection actors across the Government, NGOs, Private Sector and the Development Partners on how the GamSR is useful for their various programs. It also emphasized the importance of the Social Registry in promoting a well-coordinated social protection sector in The Gambia.
GamSR is vital for ensuring that programs effectively target the rightful beneficiaries, thus maximizing the impact of social protection interventions. The workshop covered a diverse array of relevant topics, such as:
Data Protection
GamSR Data Request
Grievance Redress Mechanism(GRM)
Financing of Social Registries
Social Registry Information Systems
We are delighted with the participation and the constructive conversations that took place during the workshop. By strengthening the Social Registry, we can better equip social protection programs in The Gambia to support the most vulnerable members of our communities. We remain committed to working together to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the social protection sector in the country.
